Jesus gave his mother Mary respect and obedience while he was young (Luke 2:51) but did not allow her to interfere with his ministry when he was fully adult (Luke 8:19). In his compassion, even though in agony on the cross, he made provision for her in her old age (John 19:25-27). When he met the widow of Nain he had compassion on her and gave her back her son (Luke 7:11-15).
